Self-employed person’s deduction
Every self-employed person is entitled to self-employed deduction as long as you meet the hours criterion. 1225 hours per year working on your case. The deduction is 7,030 Euros at its peak.
You meet the requirements if you:
- Work on your business for at least 1,225 hours a year. Roughly speaking, that’s 24 hours a week. It’s not just about the hours you work for a client. Indirect hours that do not generate revenue are also applicable. Drawing up invoices, keeping records, posting social media messages, following courses, visiting network meetings or keeping professional literature up to date are also part of this.
- Also, you must work more than 50% of your working hours for your own company. If you work more hours for an employer or if you have a higher income from employment, the deduction is at risk.
Financial statements
Many self-employed people pay unnecessary money for annual accounts. The tax authorities no longer require this. But it does cost you a lot of money and that is of course a shame. Fiscal old-age reserve, the FOR
Administratiekantoor Amsterdam also points out tax benefits to the self-employed person . A possible deduction on your income tax return is the Fiscal Old-Age Reserve (the FOR). As a self-employed person, you can donate (set aside) to the FOR every year. Endowment means that an amount is booked annually in the costs.
However, you must meet the conditions. If your assets in the business are not less than your total amount donated, you may donate up to 9.8% of your net profit annually. The maximum is €8,946 per year.
Saving Income Tax
As a result, you pay less incometax. It is a postponement, but not a cancellation. If you end the business, you will need to buy an annuity for this, which you can then have paid out again on your retirement date.
Since you are now deducting the annuity, the payment will be taxed for the income tax in due course. In fact, therefore, the FOR is nothing more than a tax debt. If you are smart about the saved income tax, you may be able to reserve the amount you save now or convert it into an annuity.
Normally, we advise you to only add to the FOR if you fall into the highest income tax bracket.
